We had begun with a side project creating a group magazine and making it from scratch, and we didn't know what we were going to do with it afterward. Halloween was around the corner and we wanted to make an edition to portray a spooky cover, that's why we had the goo effect and spider webs. Our main cover model Billie brings that spooky feeling, so with all the goo and webs, it had a go anchorage and feel to it. The dark stare coming from Billie makes the audience wonder what is going on inside her head, so they want to open to the next page. In this magazine, we wanted to talk about things relating to young girls, puberty stages and going in to mature ladies. DRAGONFLY When we did our previous  magazine cover for a practice run we had focused on teen girls in high school dealing with new things and giving advice on such topics. Our magazine was called Dragonfly, and at the time we created it to portray change, transformation, and self-realization. The analogy of opening your wings to fly after being in the water for a long time as this resembles a student in college beginning their new life and opening up to new adventures that await them. The new college students are now going somewhere else and we thought for a while that Dragonfly might be a little too girly for the college students. Then we thought about it longer, and now we considered the facts and came up with other names that could also relate to what we are going for. As I've mentioned  before, we had to think about our magazine and what we'll do for the first few days of the project. We were still thinking of how we were going to make the four editions and have them still relate to one another. We had a few ideas to do it on things relating to college and have it in themes for each individual editios. We then thought deeper into what college is and how it works, and how we can make a magazine to work around the college schedule. So students are now beginning college and at the end of the semester, they may have finished a class or just ended half the term. Everyone around certain times of the year takes a test, so we thought that could be one of the many things we can talk about, to give advise on test taking tips. For our magazine,  we wanted our genre to be geared towards the media, and have a non-fiction approach aswell. We have created our magazine to serve a variety of purposes and that's why this is our genre. The uses of the media genre are to make sure we get these concepts, to educate, entertain, and persuade the consumers. Our consumers are young college students starting or ending college, but that shouldn't stop all other types of readers from buying our magazine. We are also non-fictional because we want our information to be factual, giving our reader the most correct information and having biased opinions when needed, to make an article sound more personal and make a connection with the reader. Masthead  We'll want in our magazine as well a large text to make it instantly recognizable, and it will tie in with my audience and doing ours in purple and cursive, will help to achieve this goal. House Style Ours will have to something recognizable, like this one is big and all caps, so its notable and eye-catching. Slogan It will also attract readers if it is catchy and interesting, so it will make you want to read it. Ours go along with our audience but since we are changing our audience a bit, we might have to think of a new one. These magazines are bright and colorful, and as you can tell they are spring editions from very well known magazines.  As I was looking for examples, for spring magazines I came across these and these ended up being great examples for how I can do my cover photo. They use a big house style and it really puts their name out there, with ours it can't be too big because it has a couple of simple additions that I'll have them added in, making the masthead probably smaller. I also am planning to do a slogan, and it looks like they don't have one so I could easily still make it similar but make it my own. They have a lot of big words and buzzwords to attract reads and get a sort of responds from their consumers. One is a teenage magazine and the other is more mature so it's like the pinkies go along with the teenager looks of the first one and another thing I notice has words that are straight forward and simple. As we are planning to take photos, we have to think about the light features too. Since we have the idea to go and take the photo at Micheals, it would be fluorescent lights. It wouldn't make the best photo but with certain edits, I could make it look really professional. The good thing about this is, if the sun is coming up, then the model doesn't have to hurt her eyes to look mysterious. There is a good and bad reason to choose the lighting in the store. Now I'll go and take the pictures, and come back to this blog post. After Taking Photo, with different Lighting We hadn't had the time to go and take pictures as we described, but we planned to go out and the light on campus was great as it was cloudy on campus. This has it's own advantage as this prevents any shadows in the photos. It is also the best time around 1-2 hours after the sun rises to take photos. I started making these blogs on my iPad and that's when I thought I could just copy and paste the photos needed into the blogs. I worked and it stayed on for a while, but after writing the blogs I would close it, and wouldn't work on it for a while. Then when I went back to the blog, the pictures would be gone and only an outline stayed were the image had been. As you can see in the photo, the photos were still in the program itself and saved throughout the blog, but none of them were there. I hadn't figured it out until later on some, but it made me upset because I had to struggled to find the same picture so I didn't have to write a whole new article to link it to a picture. Then I got my computer and it made it a lot easier to do things, and that's when I used my previous knowledge, to prevent the same mistakes. Now I use a program called Dropbox. In our magazine, we want to support positive body awareness. We will be known for our goal to keep our photos original without any editing or photoshop. By doing this our magazine will still stand towards our old slogan be "not like the other girls(magazines)". We want to build girl's self-esteem, so when they see how other girls are, and how they live, it will help them know that we are there and there's no shame in who they are or what they want to be. As in many different adverts like Aerie, in particular, they are big on body awareness and as in the photo it doesn't matter your race, how you walk, your size, you are who you are and that doesn't change the fact of what you can do in your life, or who you can be.  None of my photos have a picture with girls with makeup on and it shows how we represent body positivism and self-love, because as college students they don't have to be pretty or wear a full set of makeup to succeed in her careers, ...

For my spring photo, I plan to do something with flowers, because they are the symbol for spring. I’d like to have spring colors like pastel pinks and yellows. So we had an idea to go to Michael's and go to the artificial flower section, have her pose against them, thus making the background like a real flower wall. I could possibly change the lighting to make it focus on the model and fade out the background. I have asked the model to come dressed in a yellow shirt and now for the moment, we're going to find the best place to take more photos around our campus. We had taken photos around the campus for another photoshoot project and I could use some of the areas that are similar for my magazine, or the cover. We had used these white flowers that are just in the back of the school by the new gym. We decide on some areas around campus that would be considered great photoshoot areas. With our models, we planned to go during class after the sun just came up, but we hadn’t planned for what was going to happen. A fire drill occurred at the beginning of our class period so we didn't have as much time as planned, also the weather in Sarasota decided to get cold so it was difficult to get photos when we all just wanted to go inside. We got to the entrance of the football field and got a long shoot of a "college girl" type photo. So I wanted to make the photo like she’s going to graduate soon, and she’s happy to be free. We took some photos of her jumping to give off a happy sense, and I had brought in a graduation cap that was my sisters last year. As a class, we  were trying to find a good site to make our magazine. The first magazine we had done was on paper so it wasn't as difficult. We had come across canva and its meant for touch-ups and could be used for Instagram posts, but we were able to search magazines and they gave us templates to start off our magazine, which made everyone's life's easier. We had gone with a template that matched our style and it had cursive, which looked nice with our masthead. Then we went on making our magazine and technical difficulties were sure to come along the way. When choosing the templates we all wanted to keep it the same and as I said we all chose the cursive looking one called thirteen. After taking the photos, we want to link it to the main article. It needs to be something about what happens around spring in college. Now for my cover picture, I will most likely go with the college girl jumping up because she's excited to be out of school soon. So I've started out with the title 'Remi's Life' and I will start at the bottom of the title what the main article will be about. I can talk with Remi about what was going on in her life and how she's doing with school coming to an end. Also with that, I could have an article about a college student ending their school life or just continuing on too a new year. So it could be about what should the student do when it's coming to graduation or end of the school term. Another idea could be about spring break because we could talk about what to do when the time comes, and the best vacation places. Through the template , we had gotten these mini-articles called puffs. The layout was great with them, so I decided to go along with it and create my own in those areas. With the puffs, it makes the magazine more interesting knowing that there's more to read in the magazine. Here the letters were way too small and eligible with the background so I had to adjust it to make it come through. Then I had adjusted  the puffs according to my magazine and I made a couple changes. First, I had made the word bolder and legible. I also swapped the colors of the title and description. The white for the title looked better and stood out more with the background photo. The bottom thing that says a website and the issue and such, I had taken that out because no one in my group had kept it, I personally liked it and though it really looked nice and authentic. We had to include promotions, which official magazines usually put it toward the end and to the left of the magazine. So when people go to flip to the next page, it will catch their eye and then they can find the page number on the promotion. We did the shaver because all ladies shave and so this is a necessity, and we want to save them some money. Now they can save money to buy more books while being great looking. It has become something a girl needs, that's why it was a good idea to sponsor it. I'll use buzz words to attract the reader's attention, and create a better attracting promotion.

These are our  two slogans, the first one is from our very first magazine. We were still just about helping young girls through their teens and giving advice, so we had thought the slogan was good for that type of magazine. Then we had decided to not carry it forward because it didn't make sense for a college magazine even though it did sound like a catchy phrase. We still wanted to have the same concept, but we wanted to go for something more towards the college students and sound more grown-up. To go with the magazine  name we collaborated on what dragonfly really meant for our audience in the new magazine. In college, the students are starting a new life or they are going to graduate or just starting a new career for the first time. So the slogan is a play on words about them spreading their wing to new things. It could also be seen as a student leaving the nest out of the parent's home. For all the magazine edition  we wanted to keep things the same and keep them similar to the others. The sizes might change on the masthead but overall everything should have the same fonts and similarities. So depending on our cover photo we should adjust to that and then size it to fit within the photo. We also decided to change the color of the masthead to match with our seasons. For example, summer could be along the lines or summer colors like yellow or blue, and fall is oranges and reds to match the fall season and leave colors. Mine is spring and I could do pastel colors, so for mine, I had done it similar to our cover before when we did it purposely purple. So I wanted to keep that and have the meaning behind it to stay.  Starting on the  masthead, I wanted to make it big of course to make it noticeable and get the reader's attention. My main article is going to be about a student that has graduation coming up and I have a photo where she looks happy about it. I added in confetti to give it that effect of more happiness, it had gotten in her face too much but I placed it right where there's not too much in her face and the other ones still look good. Since it's about Remy and her college life, I need it to connect to the article and have something on the cover to show why shes on the cover and happy. Remy's name is actually spelled wrong in the picture above so that is something I'll have to change and I had struggled throughout the article because I'm used to writing it this way. Now the anchorage between the name and the photo is like I said before. Showing a happy graduate to be and her "life". That's when I'll explain what the story is about and if it is worth the read.                    As a group we wanted to keep things the same, so we can look like a real magazine out there for college students. The first table of contents is an example from the web, that can relate to our magazine except that it is for active people, not college students. From the program, we used a template to create the magazine, and we found one template to go with our cover, named "Bookish". We had taken it and created our own form its layout and made our own adjustment. For example, like it originally comes with a photo, only some of the editions will be doing that, because like me I didn't have enough pictures to go along but now we have some variety. Both of these examples above have bold lettering for the articles, so we'll definitely keep that in mind so its bold for the reader and they will be able to notice it and go to a certain article.   This is the first draft of my table of contents, and we all have the same layouts in our magazines. If we had extra pictures we used it for the top as a background picture. I personally didn't have many, so it had been hard to find one to fit in. For another example, the summer edition had pictures of the beach and used it for that top part. Since I hadn't taken extra I used an extra-long shot that shows the full length of the background of the main picture. My picture also had Remy in the middle so It had been a bit awkward to position it right. I figured that to make it not too much tension on her, I put her father in the back and between letters. Now she doesn't blend too much into the words like the cover, which was difficult to figure out. This picture here is before I added the real articles for the table of content.

                     

    I've had a couple difficulties with making my magazine come out of the works and they had been really frustrating but over time I got the hang of it. Some are small minor fixes that I had to struggle with to get right. When I put in picture after dragging them where they needed to be they would either be in front of all the lettering or behind the base color on the template. Canva is very modern and doesn't have a lot of buttons to press which made it difficult to find a way to fix it, and the best thing I could do was to click all the buttons. That's when I clicked on the picture which brought up all the tools and I was able to click more options. Then I found where the photo goes to the front or back when you click on it. With a little bit of effort and patience, I was able to figure out how to fix things on canva, even though those weren't the only problems When you put the  magazine cover photo on you have to get the right colors with the words so they don...

The photo shows how the blogger site looks like and it's not to hard to understand. It was easy to create an account and to start making posts. After finishing about half of my blogs I had found out that I wasn't making posts, but something called pages. I hadn't known and I just continued doing what I did in the beginning till I saw that none of the blogs were actually popping up. I fixed it after a little bit, but I had to transfer all the pictures and writing. As I've said in a previous post, putting in images was a difficult process, because copying doesn't work and you just end up losing the image altogether. Now another problem dealing with pictures, when you have the picture added into the post, trying to lay it out isn't very easy and the options they give you are very small and hard to read and with more pictures, it makes it even harder. Throughout the magazine, we want to show that we support the issues nowadays and go along with the social groups defending good causes. Body positivity awareness is one of the major issues these days, and it is something that has been needed to be said and hear, for the betterment of our future. In our magazines, we will use all sorts of people and it doesn't matter because everyone is beautiful however you look or what you wear. We're not going to use supermodels, we'll use local people and graduates to make our magazine personal, and all of them are models to us in this magazine. We challenge the conventions in our product in ways of making natural beauty our main source and focusing on other things then your waist size. This question I was given is asking me how my skills developed throughout this project, and yes I defiantly got skilled in the programs it's self but there are still some aspects that I'm just a beginner at. Then as time went by I got better at the programs and I was able to create an amazing product. It starts through my computer skills, which I haven't been that great to beginning with, as time goes on everything with practice I will get better. Using the different programs, that I have never used them before or heard of them was difficult. So I have been given the task to use these programs with no past knowledge. They had come with many difficulties and as I carried on they had become easier and I was able to move along swiftly. Yes, my skills developed as I went through all the problems and errors in creating this blog. If I could go back with my knowledge now I could really have saved my self a lot of time.

For this project, I had to make a digital magazine product so I'll be using a lot of technology, and when this critical reflection question asks me how I integrated technology I'll be able to have a variety of things to talk about. They mention talking about software, hardware, and online as the big topics to go over. This will help a lot to answer the question because it is like a layout on what to talk about and helps to design and format my sway. I 'll be using sway to answer this question because I'm pretty skilled with it and I can make it look really good, and Prezi is difficult to understand, as I've explained When they ask about software, I think of things that are built-in and things you can change by going into settings. So I'll talk about the programs that are built into the computer and such things which will cover that area of technology.
